October 4th, 2007 – FIX Protocol Limited (FPL) is proud to announce that FIX 5.0, the latest version of the FIX Protocol, recently won the award for ‘Best Utility Technology’ at the Operations Management 6th Annual Awards for Excellence event held in New York in late September.

Developed in response to the evolving needs of the industry, FIX 5.0 was officially released in production ready format in January 2007 significantly extending the support provided by earlier versions of the protocol. FIX 5.0 provides advanced functionality for a range of trading needs including greater functionality within the Foreign Exchange and Derivatives space, improvements within the post-trade area, regulatory support for upcoming initiatives and greater functionality for Algorithmic trading. Additionally, FIX 5.0 includes a Transport Independence Framework which enables firms to benefit from the enhancements delivered within later versions of the protocol without a complete version upgrade, delivering significant cost and resource savings for the user community.

Courtney Doyle, FPL’s Operations Director, attended the ceremony and accepted the award on behalf of the Global Technical Committee Co-Chairs - Kevin Houstoun of HSBC and Matt Simpson of the CME Group. Commenting on this announcement she stated “This award celebrates the many benefits that FIX 5.0 delivers to the market, and recognises the significant amount of time and effort contributed by the volunteer members of the FPL Global Technical Committee, without their support the delivery of this version of the protocol would not have been possible.”
