As far as I'm aware it's not possible to send 4.4 messages over a 4.2 FIX session, though I'll defer to the Technical Committee for any comments they may have regarding this. It sounds like you're after the message fragmentation feature in 4.4 to enable you to split your allocation messages up. 4.2 doesn't support this, in fact the spec does state that when using teh Allocation message 'The total shares allocated must equal the Shares value which must equal the total executed quantity of the original order.'
