I have an enhancement request to Discussion forums search results display.
Presently when user searchs for term(s) at http://fixprotocol.org/discuss/search/all , it shows
4.0 Session
-----------
No messages found.
......
.....
....
...
..
.
for all the forums which do not have any results. So even if there are no matching results, the results page displays a long list of "no messages found" messages ;-) so user has to scroll down even if there are no matching messages. ( Also the user has to click the internet browser Back button to enter a new search ).
If only forums which have matching messages are displayed, the user would see on top of page the first relevant result if there are any matching messages in any of the forums.
If there are no matching messages in any of the forums, then a message should be displayed like "No messages found in any discussion forums. Try your search again" and display the search panel ( Single select option Search for "the exact phrase / all the terms / any of the terms" + text box + Search command button )
Note :- When the search panel at URL
http://fixprotocol.org/discuss/search/all
is displayed first time, message is "Enter your search below" can displayed. When this page http://fixprotocol.org/discuss/search/all is displayed as a result of empty search query resultset, then the message is different, so user knows that his previous search failed. When the search panel http://fixprotocol.org/discuss/search/all is displayed again, maintain search parameters entered by the user, ie :-
1) Single selection "the exact phrase / all the terms / any of the terms"
2) Text entered in the text box.
This way the user can just change the text and/or search option rather than reenter the complete query :-) or click the browser back button and loose the query parameters.
Have a nice day,
Regards,
K. Mahesh
