26 Apr 2006 11:45AM ETIf you want your application to work with other FIX execution venues, you will need to provide all the mandatory fields - see the technical specifications for FIX 4.4 on this site.
In many cases the execution venue, that you wish to trade with will issue some sort of FIX ROE (Rules of Engangement) document - and in this document they will define what fields are used.
If you wish to accept orders via FIX you will need to support the mandatory fields and decide what optional fields you support.
And note that orders placed for FE, Fixed income and derivatives all have different usage of optional fields.
