Stuart Adams
EMEA Regional Director, FPL

Stuart Adams has been FIX Protocol EMEA Regional Director since March 2009.  Working closely with members, exchanges, ECNs and regulators across the region, Mr. Adams is responsible for building stronger relationships with this market sector and generating a greater understanding of how the FIX Protocol may be used to increase market efficiency.  Mr. Adams has worked in the financial technology sector for more than 20 years, most recently as Head of European Operations at Portware, where he was responsible for setting up the firm’s London office and developing senior industry relationships to establish the business in Europe.  Prior to this, Mr. Adams undertook a number of different assignments including the position of Managing Director of AKJ, a technology solutions provider for the hedge fund and asset management community, regulatory principal of Brut ECN Europe and Institutional Sales Director for Instinet Global Services.  In addition to his current position at FPL, Mr. Adams continues to work as an independent consultant within the financial services industry.

Guy Algeo
Director, Imara SP Reid

Guy Algeo joined the Imara Group in 2003 and is Director of Derivatives trading at Imara SP Reid. He has 15 years investment industry experience and has developed and managed the implementation of various investment and trading systems, previously at Alexander Forbes, BoE and now at Imara.

With a keen understanding of business requirements and where the application of new technologies can improve processes, services, execution and profitability. Guy now oversees the implementation of FIX based trading systems across Africa and the Group’s E-business strategy.   

Richard Bell
Co-Chair FPL Southern African Subcommittee
Director, Buy-Side Solutions, Peresys

Richard has been with Peresys for ten years and was instrumental in implementing FIX into the South Africa, working with both the Buys Side and Sell Side community. After spending two years in London growing the reach of the Peresys Connected Trading Community, Richard is now based in Cape Town and is responsible for community based solutions relating to the Buy Sides across all Peresys products. Within his current role is the important function of co-chairing the South African FIX Protocol Committee.

Richard joined Peresys after spending three years at Coronation Fund Managers as Head of Technology where he was responsible for all technology including the management and implementation of both unit trust and investment management systems, designing and implementing new technologies within the group.



Warren Chapman
Director and Head of Electronic Trading Services, Peregrine Securities (Pty) Ltd

Warren has worked at Peregrine Securities as a director since March 2001.   He has been responsible for both the Prime Services businesses and the Electronic Trading businesses and has substantial experience in the South African hedge fund space.    Warren  also sits on the JSE’s Trading Advisory Committee.

Ray Duncan
Global Head of Cross FIX Connectivity, HSBC  

Ray Duncan is Global Head of Client connectivity IT at HSBC, managing their global multi-asset FIX environment. Ray has over 20 years banking technology experience, of which the last 10 years have been spent working on FIX technology. During this time, he has built up a wealth of knowledge on the use of FIX in a cross asset global environment.
Prior to joining HSBC, Ray worked for Yamaichi Bank as a Systems Manager responsible for the entire front office technology infrastructure and trading applications; and before that spent 7 years at BIS Banking Systems developing and implementing their front office trading platform globally.


Alasdair Haynes
Co-Chair FPL Global Membership Committee
CEO, Chi-X Europe Limited

Alasdair Haynes was appointed as CEO of Chi-X Europe in December 2009. Alasdair has extensive international experience in building and managing brokerage operations and crossing systems. From 2006-2009 he was CEO of ITG International, where he was responsible for all of ITG's non-North American businesses. This role followed his tenure as CEO of ITG Europe, during which time the firm launched Europe's first fully electronic crossing network, POSIT® in 1998. During his career Alasdair has also served as Global Head of Equity Derivatives at HSBC James Capel, Head of European Listed Derivatives at UBS, Head of Listed and Short Dated Equity Options at Bankers Trust and Head of Equities Risk Management at Morgan Grenfell.

Alasdair is currently a director of FIX Protocol Ltd (FPL) and previously served as co-chair for EMEA. He is also a member of the CESR Secondary Markets Standing Committee, the consultative committee for the MiFID review. Alasdair received the "Best Personal Contribution" award by the Financial News in 2008.

Kevin Houstoun

Kevin Houstoun

Kevin has over 20 years financial services industry experience and has initiated and implemented electronic trading technologies first at Robert Fleming Asset Management and then at Solomon Brothers.

Utilising his unique understanding and knowledge, Kevin has co-authored one of the world’s most performant FIX engines with his company Rapid Addition Limited, Rapid Addition specialise in product innovation in the FIX marketplace, offers a range of high performance FIX engines and tools which are used to advance the trading capabilities of firms globally. RA's clients currently include leading Stock Exchanges, buy-side and sell-side firms specialising in FIX.

Kevin is also currently Co-Chair of the FPL Global Technical committee and has been intimately involved in the technical development of FIX for over 10 years.

Rapid Addition recently launched www.electronicdealing.com, a free vault and editor for the production of FIX ATDL files, RA did this because it believes consistency of implementation of these files is critical to the success of FIX ATDL.

Peter Johnston
EMEA Head, EMSX Products, Bloomberg

In June 2008 Peter was asked to manage the growth of Bloomberg's EMS, IOI and TCA businesses in the EMEA region. He left CS First Boston's Russian Equity Research team, 14 years ago, to join an emergent Bloomberg. Since then he has successfully managed various Bloomberg sales teams in the UK, Emerging Markets and Southern Europe. Peter has also had particular influence in shaping Bloomberg's Russian business and its Energy and FX Derivatives products.

Brett Kotze
Co-Chair FPL Southern African Subcommittee, General Manager, Clearing & Settlement, JSE Limited  

Brett worked for a South African bank for 17 years where he covered all aspects of banking.

In 2000 Brett joined the JSE Limited, Clearing & Settlement Division. Since joining the JSE he has been instrumental in the implementation of:-

  • Electronic clearing and settlement in South Africa through a CSD-STRATE
  • Automation of corporate actions through the CSD-STRATE
  • Setting up the JSE as a quasi CCP with the guaranteeing of settlement of central order book trades
  • A system to monitor settlement orders through their life cycle
  • Automation of the issuance of Money Market Instruments ISINs
  • Formalising the processes within the JSE relating to SWIFT
  • Shared SWIFTNet Connection through the CSD
  • Electronic Trade Confirmations

Vipin Mahabirsingh
Managing Director, Central Depository & Settlement Co. Ltd (CDS, Mauritius)

Vipin Mahabirsingh holds a B.Tech (First Class, Hons.) degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Mauritius, an M.Phil in Microelectronic Engineering and Semiconductor Physics from the University of Cambridge and an MBA (with distinction) from Edinburgh Business School. He is the Managing Director of the Central Depository & Settlement Co. Ltd in Mauritius. Vipin also provides consultancy services to African stock exchanges and central depositories. He was the Project Director for the implementation of trading and depository systems at the Nairobi Stock Exchange, Bank of Ghana, Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, Botswana Stock Exchange and Lusaka Stock Exchange. From May 2008 to July 2009, he was the Chairman of a Project Steering Committee that was set up by the Committee of SADC Stock Exchanges to deliver a comprehensive business case for the interconnection of the SADC exchanges. Vipin is a regular speaker at capital markets conferences in Africa.

Andrew Morgan
Director, Head of autobahn Equity Europe, Global Markets, Deutsche Bank

Andrew Morgan is European Head of Autobahn Equity, Deutsche Bank’s electronic trading platform for equities. Andrew joined Deutsche Bank in 2004 from the Equities Division of Goldman Sachs. He began his career at PWC and is an ACA.

Christopher Norris
Director, Execution Sales, Citigroup

Christopher Norris is part of the EMEA Execution Sales division at Citi, with a specific focus on electronic trading, portfolio trading and quantitative research for the European Institutional and Hedge Fund markets.   Prior to Citi, Christopher spent three years at State Street Global markets having started his career as a graduate with Merrill Lynch in 1999.

Shaun Nicholson
Business Analyst, Peresys

Shaun has been with Peresys since 2003, starting as a support engineer for Portfolio Management and Trading Applications.  A year later Shaun joined the Business team as a Business Analyst focusing specifically on trading applications.  Shaun quickly became involved with FIX projects and was instrumental in the first FIX enabled Trading application in Peresys.  Since then Shaun has focused on FIX applications and has been a core part of the growth of FIX applications at Peresys.  Shaun now heads up all Business initiatives in the Trading division. Over the past 7 years Shaun has implemented many FIX and other projects including Market Making, Algorithmic Trading, IOI's, Allocations and the successful multi Asset, FIX enabled perFIX EMS.

Leanne Parsons
Chief Operating Officer, JSE Limited  

Leanne has been with the JSE for 25 years and has been an Executive Director since 1 December 2000 and the Chief Operating Officer since November 2002. Leanne a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is also a Director of SAFCOM (Pty) Ltd.
Through her tenure at the JSE, Leanne has had responsibility for managing a number of operational divisions and starting new divisions as the JSE has evolved its business.
She is head of the Equity Market and has additional operational responsibility for Customer Services and   Business Continuity.
Some of the major focus areas are:

  1. Continuous development of growth strategies for the Equity Market across access, products, services, trading models and analytics. Some of these initiatives include FIX Enablement and investigating Remote Membership.
  2. Development of specific initiatives aimed at improving liquidity on the JSE’s equity market.
  3. Replacement of the JSE’s Broker Deal Accointing System.
  4. Management of the replacement of JSE TradElect (the JSE’s equity market trading system).



Andries Potgieter
Head of Electronic Execution Services, Investec Institutional Securities 

Andries Potgieter joined Investec in 2006, where he headsup the electronic execution services team within the Institutional Securities business in Johannesburg. Andries and his team are focused on all aspects related to the future of trading and the use of technology to revolutionize the way in which business is conducted and ensures that we stay at the forefront of market structure changes, regulation, risk management, technology and process improvement.

Prior to joining Investec, Andries spent seven years abroad during which he gained experience with a number of large international financial services institutions in London, including Salomon Smith Barney and Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein. Andries has been involved in many diverse areas within the industry, ranging from equity trading, information technology, process improvement, operations management and regulation.

Paul Robson
Chief Information Officer, Deutsche Bank South Africa, Deutsche Bank 

Paul graduated from Kingston University (London) in 1995 with a BA (Hon) in Business Administration.  In 2000 Paul joined Deutsche Bank in London and worked as part of the technology team that built the AutoBahnFX platform.  He joined Deutsche Bank Johannesburg in May 2006 as Chief Information Officer.  In 2008 Paul was asked to head up algorithmic trading technology for Deutsche’s Emerging Markets Equities business.  In 2009 this mandate was expanded to include Deutsche’s Emerging Markets Debt business.  Paul has been responsible for the deployment of algorithmic trading platforms in Johannesburg, Brazil, Moscow, New York and London.  The algorithms that have been deployed to these locations range for ETF Arbitrage to High Frequency FX trading strategies.  Over the past few years Paul has gained extensive knowledge of algorithmic trading and associated technologies.

Audris Siow
Vice President, Algorithmic Sales, Investment Technology Group

Audris Siow is Vice President, Algorithmic Trading for ITG in Europe. Since 2008 she has been integral in ITG’s algorithmic business in Europe which is part of the electronic trading group, particularly in the areas of market expertise and servicing sell-side clients.

Before joining ITG in 2008, Audris spent 8 years at Smarts Group International where she held various positions, including most recently, Head of Sales & Business Development for the group’s international clientele. She also led various teams in consulting for and implementing complex market control and surveillance platforms for stock exchanges, regulators and a variety of large financial institutions across the globe.   

Audris Siow has a PhD in Finance, focusing in the area of market integrity and surveillance.

Allan Thomson
Director, Trading, JSE Limited

Allan studied at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa obtaining a B.Comm degree.  Thereafter he was conscripted for two years to the South African Navy, obtaining the rank of Sub-Lieutenant.  During spare time in the Navy, Allan obtained an Honors degree through the University of South Africa.

The first introduction to financial markets came in early 1992 when Allan joined Rand Merchant Bank in Johannesburg, South Africa.  After moving around the Bank on a trainee induction programme, Allan joined the Equities and Derivatives trading desk as a proprietary trader.
Allan left RMB in 1999.

In 1999 Allan moved to head up the stock broking firm of Matthison and Hollidge. In this capacity he was instrumental in concluding the first trades, and establishing the first automated market making system for Single Stock Futures.

Allan joined the JSE in 2001.  He has a passion for new and exciting products, and has been instrumental in developing the South African listed derivatives market.

In an attempt to preserve some sanity - he runs a Martial Arts School in his spare time, and enjoys flying aeroplanes on the weekend.

Andrew Walsh
Managing Director, Iress Market Technology

Andrew Walsh is Managing Director for IRESS Market Technology. IRESS is a principal supplier of financial market and wealth management systems in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, and Asia. IRESS services a broad array of professional buy and sell-side and non-professional financial participants, with solutions covering market data, OMS, EMS, exchange connectivity, FIX and smart order routing.

Andrew founded XPLAN Technology, and from 2003 managed the transition of XPLAN from an independent organisation to a fully integrated division of IRESS. Prior to joining IRESS in 2003, Andrew held various roles in actuarial consulting, software and business development.
