FIX is the global communications standard for electronic equities trading and an emerging standard in derivatives, fixed income, and foreign exchange markets. Yet its potential for further improving the trade process in these and other markets - and for providing new trading capabilities for all market participants - is virtually unbounded.
Hundreds of volunteers are working to extend FIX into new asset classes, in every region of the globe. They are developing new trading capabilities, ranging from support for algorithmic trading to enablement of syndicate formation to block-trade allocation. They are building trade processes that replace ambiguity with certainty and substitute immediacy for delay. They are enabling FIX and the financial markets as a whole to take maximum advantage of general-purpose standards, such as XML. They are creating new development tools that simplify and ease the tasks of using FIX within your organization, of building new, FIX-based products and services, and of making existing FIX products and connections even better.
With so much of today's global trading volume and so many of tomorrow's trading capabilities dependent upon FIX, organizing and facilitating the ongoing development, communication, and support of the FIX Protocol requires a formal effort. The not-for-profit FIX Protocol Limited ("FPL") fulfills this purpose. FPL consists of over 170 member firms which represent buyside, sellside, ECNs, exchanges, as well as vendors of FIX-based products and services all of whom use FIX as a regular part of their businesses.
Your financial support of FIX Protocol Limited ("FPL") provides the organizational infrastructure that FIX needs if it is to follow a coherent and market-responsive development path for the future. It supports the maintenance of privacy, copyright, and acceptable-use policies that protect the validity of the FIX Protocol while also enabling others to build and support commercial products and services based upon it. Your participation provides a consistent point-of-contact for all FIX Protocol constituents - whether adopters, vendors, or regulators - and ensures that the FIX Protocol is responsive to all applicable laws and regulations. It funds the operation and maintenance of this website and its discussion forums, which provide over 30,000 registered users with the latest specifications, FIX-related news and other information, and engineering support.
Firms join FPL to enhance their ability to implement and benefit from the FIX Protocol. FPL provides the structure that enables members to work together to realize these benefits quickly and without duplication of effort and expense. Please join us! We welcome your membership in FPL.
