Jim Northey has over twenty years experience as a manager, consultant, and implementer in the financial markets. He was the first chairperson and is a former co-chair of the FIX Protocol Ltd. (FPL) Global Derivatives Committee. Prior to forming The LaSalle Technology Group, LLC with his son Jacob Northey, Jim was the manager of the derivatives practice area for Jordan & Jordan, a leading global management and technology consulting firm. Prior to joining J&J, Jim was a principal and founder of The LaSalle Technology Management Group (LTG) in Chicago .

Jim is an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) member who also actively participates in the Futures Industry Association (FIA), International Association of Financial Engineers (IAFE), and Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP).

Jim has been a very active leader and innovator in creating and promoting financial messaging standards by extending FIX usage for listed derivatives. In concert with the CME, Jim was a creator of the Implicit Tagging version of FIX, which was the precursor to The FAST protocol (FIX Adapted for Streaming). In addition to FIX, Jim regularly contributes to FpML and the ISO 20022 standardization efforts.

In March of 2006, along with a small group of innovators, Jim was awarded that Future Industry Association Annual Achievement Award recognizing the work done to develop and deploy FIXML for listed derivatives post trade processing.

Jim is the editor of the forthcoming “The FAST Handbook” being published by Elsevier – Academic Press.

Jim was a lecturer in the School of Business and Economics and the School of Arts and Sciences – Department of Computer Science at Michigan Technological University in Houghton , Michigan .

Jim assists the Institute for Financial Markets ( http://www.i4mt.org ) with their various certification programs, especially the Certified Financial Protocol Specialist (CFPS) program.

Jim has a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Indianapolis and a M.S. in Financial Markets and Trading from the Illinois Institute of Technology with an emphasis in Computational Finance. Jim has also completed graduate course work at DePaul University and Michigan Technological University .
