If you have a FIX-based trading system, you want clients to easily send order flow and trade with you. However, FIX is a loose standard with many different “flavors”, and testing the many variants can be a labor-intensive process that can take weeks to successfully complete. Furthermore, as soon as something changes, the process must be repeated, potentially with every client.


To address this challenge, Aegis has developed the FIX Certification Service (FCS), a carefully-crafted, step-by-step tool used by prospective trading partners to verify protocol adherence. Users execute the FCS application on their own, going through various scenarios to ensure correct FIX message flow from their system to yours.


FCS Suite Creation

Your firm creates an FCS Suite using either a pre-existing FIX log file or by recording interactions between your trading system (OMS) and Aegis’ full-featured GUI applications, Client Simulator and/or Exchange Simulator. Then, simply add to the recorded scripts any prompts you want to appear to the clients “on-screen” during certification. Once created and uploaded, FCS is ready for client use. As certification requirements change, the same tools are used to easily modify or re-record existing suites.


FIX Certification

Clients certify using the FCS Suites you create. First, the client connects to the FCS application via the Internet and launches their trading system. Next, they follow FCS’ step-by-step instructions, using their trading system to perform specific actions (e.g. “Enter a Buy for 500 shares of AOL at market”) and verify messages coming back to them (e.g. “Did you receive a fill for 500 shares?”). FCS automatically responds to the client’s entries, asking simple verification questions and advancing to more tests. Your clients run the tests themselves with no intervention from you, and can reuse the system as many times as they want, stopping and restarting the test suite hours or days later.


All verifications and responses are recorded to a log that can be viewed any time during certification. When testing is complete, a test log is recorded to your database for future reporting and analysis. A full suite of management reports are included, allowing you to track user results and analyze specific runs of FCS Suites.
